Students rocked their final assessment for the Circulatory System unit -- 5D is a class of budding scientists! I will hand back these tests in March -- can you believe that our first six weeks of 2010 are already coming to an end?!!?

Tiana delighted the class with an incredible Chinese New Year presentation today to ring in the Year of the Tiger (which will officially begin on February 14th). She thoughtfully made red envelopes full of treats and chocolate coins for everyone, and brought in delicious egg tarts (we were all excited to learn that they taste much differently than they sound). Tiana brought in a really neat dragon head that students got to wear -- it was a really lovely presentation and 5D thanks Tiana for all of her hard work!!

In Math, we finished off our February together with some more Fractions review. I handed out an optional package to work on over the break to keep your brains sharp. You will notice that there is not much space for showing your work -- feel free to do your work on a separate piece of paper.
We will not take this package up -- complete at your discretion, but you know the value of keeping concepts fresh in your mind!

If you would like to bring in Valentines tomorrow, please feel free! Just be sure to bring in one for each member of 5D.

RED DAY TOMORROW!
GO CANADA GO!

Please continue to work on Speeches. Work can now be completed at home. We will check back in together in March.

Good night, 5D! Enjoy the torch celebrations tonight if you are going!

What a beautiful day!

This spring weather is wonderful -- just in time for the Winter Olympics!

The children had an excellent day today while they continue to develop their understanding of the Respiratory System. Expository Writing skills are continuing to flourish!

Come in your PE kit, and bring your uniform. It's time to get pumped up for RED DAY on Thursday! Go Canada Go!

Tonight, please be sure to work on your Math homework - far too many children are leaving their Math to the last moment so be sure to take the time to get organized tonight. Sign and Return tests! 5D Math -- complete pages 57 and 58 in your Fractions booklet.

We had a wonderful time at the Aquarium last weekend -- the children were so well behaved and represented Collingwood like the gems that they are.

I travelled with one group of children for the majority of the time, so admittedly these photos do not capture all of the 5D super stars in their glory, but it's still a good conversation starter!

Enjoy!

Olympic fever!

We are going to have a great Olympic/Canada/House pride assembly tomorrow run by our fantastic student leaders! Be sure to wear your regular uniform bottoms and your Olympic/Canada pride tops for the assembly tomorrow!

Tonight, students are completing the two pages entitled "How the Respiratory System Works" due Wednesday. This will be a great review of your learning! Please note that the grade wide test next week will only be on the Circulatory System, but we will have small quiz within our own class to make sure that you have the Respiratory System down pat! You are all doing so well with this challenging material!

Problem Solving is due on Monday -- I don't make house calls on Sunday night, so please complete a small amount each night this week! I am sure you have all done brilliantly on the Fractions Section One test today! You will get them back at some point this week.

Good night, 5D!

Monday

We had a great day back today, and we accomplished some great things in our Respiratory System. Students are continuing to develop their summarizing skills by creating Kay Ideas at the end of each lesson.

Problem Solving: We worked through the strategy of Making a Table today, applying logic and an understanding of patterns to solve problems. We discovered that our skills at finding the LCM greatly helped in this process. Please complete this package for next Monday -- questions 79, 103, 59 and 108. We have a Fractions Test tomorrow, so tonight it would be wise to review.

Speech drafts (drafts!) are due tomorrow for my editing.
Please come in PE kit, bring your uniform and please remember your recorder!

Good night, 5D!
